It’s every parent’s biggest fear: they get a call from the school that their child got a tooth knocked out playing in PE, or out on the court.

Did you now that although this is 70% of parents’ biggest fears, a whopping 67% of parents admit that their child does NOT wear a mouthguard during physical activities*.  We understand that things happen, but when it’s something preventative, it is a really hard reality.

That’s why we cannot stress enough the importance of wearing a mouthguard during any organized sports: football, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse… you name it! Because no matter how careful our kiddos can try to be, we can’t control a fly ball or someone’s helmet ramming into their mouth. Kids who do not wear mouthguards are 60 times more likely to sustain damage to their teeth.

Tooth damage or tooth loss can mean a lot of different things for you. There is the cost to consider to replace an adult tooth. Not to mention the number of different specialists that you will need to consult with if that happens. Take the orthodontist for example. We will need to ensure that the other teeth do not move into the newly-freed space in your kid’s mouth. Because that will inevitably happen over time.

Mouthguards protect your child’s teeth from trauma and damage and save you the cost of replacing teeth in the future. They are an affordable and necessary piece of an athlete’s toolbox.
