From a mama to 3 – By Mamabirdchronicles

We found out Sawyer needed braces last summer, when he was eight. Sawyer is my oldest and I never had braces, so I had no idea what to expect. I was nervous and overwhelmed when we started looking for an orthodontist last summer. I’ll be sharing a bit about our orthodontic journey in hopes of making it less daunting for other mamas starting this journey.

We interviewed several local orthodontists before we chose Sing Orthodontics.. We’re over halfway done with phase one treatment. The careful consideration has paid off as we’re super happy with Sawyer’s care.

Here are the five factors we considered:

      1. Location, location, location — we visit every 6 weeks, more often if we have an issue. Having a provider in a convenient location is a must.

      2. Bedside manner — this make a huge difference during treatment. I really wanted someone who was kind and spoke respectfully with Sawyer. Two of the providers we met with ignored him totally and just talked to me. Sawyer is a very inquisitive kid so this was an issue for us. After all, it’s his mouth!

      3. Word of mouth reviews — look on local Facebook mom groups to hear about experiences from mamas. A few practices stood out as being recommended several times, so those are the ones we consulted.

      4. Appointment availability and wait time — ask the practice what days of the week they treat patients and how easy it is to get an emergency appointment. This is important if a bracket breaks or expander gets stuck on a turn. I also asked other parents how long they typically wait to be seen.

      5. Smile satisfaction — look at the smiles of older kids who have completed treatment, both phase one and two. Do you like how they look?

Dr. Singh and her staff check all the boxes for our family. Sawyer has not been an easy patient, but Dr. Singh and her staff are extremely patient with him. Their communication is top notch and appointments are on time. It’s pretty amazing to watch his mouth change. Austin and Lakeway mamas, feel free to DM with questions.
