For Smiles That Last, Choose Sing Orthodontics
Did you know that most kids are done with their braces by age 13? This is usually the case if the child has received phase 1 braces at the age seven for early treatment. Doing this reduces pain, discomfort, extended treatment times, and costs for kids and parents.
At What Age Do Kids Get Braces?
Phase I
Along with the American Association of Orthodontists, we recommend that a child receives their first orthodontic examination at the age of 7. Screening at this age is complementary and allows for the identification and interception of bite- or growth-related problems.
Treatment at this age is called Phase 1 and includes expanding their arches to create room for tooth movement and the arrival of their adult teeth. After the age of around 14, it can be more difficult to correct such problems, which is why we recommend early screening and treatment. That said, it is possible for teenagers (and adults of all ages) to undergo successful orthodontic treatment.
Benefits of Braces for Kids
Early intervention with braces is advised and presents a host of life-long benefits. These include:
- Creating space for permanent teeth
- Improving facial symmetry
- Resolving speech issues
- Treating issues related to overbite, underbite, and crossbite
- Addressing gaps between teeth
- Easing difficulty when chewing
- Increased self-confidence
